EV terms and what they mean

We know that the world of EVs can be confusing, so here’s an explanation of some key words within the industry:

EV: this simply stands for Electric Vehicle and defines a vehicle which is powered by a 100% electric motor.

Range: the maximum distance that an EV can drive on a single charge.

Kilowatt-hours (kWh): This is how many kilowatts a battery can provide in an hour. More kilowatt-hours mean a bigger battery, which results in more power for longer.

Regenerative braking: a feature that increases range by returning braking energy to the main battery that would otherwise be wasted. Read more.

Off-peak charging: Charging your EV when electricity rates are lower — usually at night.
